Agree that dog poo should be picked up on paths areas used in parks etc. However, the forestry commission requests dog owners "stick and flick" dog waste to under bushes where appropriate. This seems like a sensible and environmentally friendly alternative. Also, well exercised dogs are more content and cause less issues than dogs that are not allowed to run off their excess energy. Whilst leads are appropriate in some settings there must be areas that remain where well behaved dogs are allowed to be exercised off the lead.
